I am new to keeping fish and started a few days ago with 5 leopard Danios. They appear to be eating each other and now I have only 3. What, if anything, can I do to prevent this?

When I posted this morning I had no other fish in the tank (literally just established the water levels and introducing a few fish at a time). Found one of the dead fish today being eaten by tiny little snails... I didn't put them in there... might they have come off the aquatic plants I put in? There's a full lid on top of the tank so doubt they've 'escaped'.
Since this morning I have added 5 'neon' tetras to the tank as I was advised that any 'small' fish like these two would be able to 'school' together and be company for each other and that might lessen the stress and stop them dying...?

Most fish will pick at the bodies of dead tank mates regardless of how well fed they are, I have seen some of the larger Danio species eat small fish but something the size of a leopard Danio couldn't eat another one.

Neon's are probably not the best choice for a new setup as they can tend to be a bit sensitive.

How big is the tank ?
