An introduction to the owner and the aims of Northeast Aquatics.

Hi I am Mark Duffill and I am the owner of Northeast aquatics, I have been keeping fish since 1978 when I was given a goldfish but my parents had been keeping fish since shortly after I was born in 1972. My parents were involved with a couple of local fish clubs and as the years went by I myself got more heavily involved, I was a member of Redcar Fish Keepers (formerly Redcar Aquarists) and eventually after a few years as a committee member I ended up as the club secretary.

As well as Redcar Fish Keepers I helped out with the running of the North East Federation of Aquarist Societies (NEFAS) and was also a Judge for NEFAS before it disbanded in the early nineties.

I have kept, shown and bred a vast number of species over the years but I have always been drawn back to Loaches and Rasbora’s and I am now officially a total loachaholic and am Chairman of the Loach Association of Great Britain (LAGB), I currently have over 40 different species of loach of which I have spawned more than 8 species including Yasuhikotakia sidthimunki and was the first to spawn Botia kubotai, Cobitis paludica and Acanthopsoides molobrion.

I also keep Barbs and various other cyprinids and shrimps of Asian origin; I am also the proud owner of a 6000 gallon Koi pond with fish to over 2' long.

I hope the friendly community here at Northeast Aquatics can continue to grow over the years and become a thriving community for experienced fish keepers and beginners alike, the aim of myself and the staff at Northeast Aquatics is to help build a web site & forum that can be enjoyed by everyone at all levels and promote the hobby of fish keeping, local clubs and organisations within the Northeast of England and further afield within the UK, Europe or whereever there are people passionate about keeping fish.
